        The department of Community Medicine, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bengaluru(KIMS) was established on 1st April, 1981. The objective of this Department is to providea high quality training in Community Medicine to the under graduate medical students enrolled for MBBS (basic medical degree) and post graduate medical students enrolled for MD (Community Medicine). The other activities of the Department are to conduct basic research, conduct training programs and to provide promotive, preventive and curative health services to the community, for the health and welfare of the people.The department is headed by a Professor who reports to the Principal of KIMS. The department consists of both teaching and non-teaching staff as stipulated by the Medical Council of India. It is governed by the Governing Council of KIMS College run by the Vokkaligara Sangha, a registered Society established for the welfare of the Vokkaliga Community.
