KIMS Community Medicine Alumnus Meet


The first KIMS Community Medicine Alumnus meet was held on 26th January 2014. The venue was Confident Cascade resorts, Bannerghatta road, Bangalore. An informal get together was held to express gratitude to teachers and to network with fellow alumni and current post graduates.

The president of KIMS Community Medicine alumni association is Dr B J Mahendra, (First PG and currently working as Professor and HOD of Community Medicine, MIMS, Mandya), secretary is Dr D H Ashwath Narayana (currently working as Professor and HOD of Community Medicine, KIMS, Bangalore) and treasurer is Dr B S Pradeep (currently associate professor, public health department, NIMHANS, Bangalore). The occasion was graced by 30 Alumni from all batches from various parts of the country and outside along with 17 current postgraduates of the department with their family members. Guest attendees included teaching faculty and non-teaching faculty with their family members.

The master of the ceremony was Dr Anandagiri (currently working as consultant at NHS, UK). The meet started with invocation song by Dr.Chandana (postgraduate), welcome speech was given by Dr B J Mahendra and information on the objectives of KIMS Community Medicine Alumnus was given by Dr B S Pradeep.

This was followed by felicitation to our experienced and respected senior staff, Dr. A.N. Armugam, Dr. M.K. Sudarshan, Dr. B.G. Parasuramalu, Dr. M.S. Rajanna and Dr. Gangaboraiah. They shared their experience in this department and informed that hardwork helped to reach great height and success both in academic and research work.

Also the current non alumnus teaching faculties, non-teaching faculties, nursing staffs in the department were honored with mementos.

Kaleidoscope, a book containing details of alumnus and current postgraduates was released. A walk down memory with photos from different time periods depicting the departmental activities since its inception were projected and appreciated by all present. This was followed by talks from the alumni. They shared their experiences in this department during their post-graduation and also spoke on how staff helped to enhance their knowledge in the field of community medicine including inculcation of leadership and managerial qualities. They attributed their success to strong foundations instilled by the department. This was followed by group photo sessions and vote of thanks.


Release of Kaleidoscope
 

Afternoon session, following delightful lunch, began with important discussion on building of formal alumnus group and strengthening link between alumni and current post graduates for support in the field of community medicine with their vast experience. Commendable suggestions and proposals came up for approval and some for later action. An adhoc committee was conceived to oversee the activities planned which consists of Dr. Ashwath Narayana, Dr. Anandgiri, Dr. Pradeep, Dr. Sudhashree, Dr. Venkatesh, Dr. Praveen Kulkarni and Dr. Chandana. This was followed by cultural activities and sports for alumni and current post graduates. The meet ended with promise to meet again.

The RHTC also has liasion with three other Primary Health Centers namely, PHC Kengeri, PHC K. Gollahally and PHC Sullikere and works in close coordination with them in day to day functioning, implementation of all the national programmes, etc. They also work in CHC, Kengeri .

2nd KIMS Community Medicine PG Alumni Meet

The 2nd KIMS Community Medicine PG Alumni Meet was held on 19th April 2019, Friday at Holiday Palms Resort,Bengaluru . 23 Alumni had registered for the meet along with department teaching and non teaching staff. Dr. Sudhashree Chandrashekar did the anchoring of the programme. The programme started with invocation song by Dr.Chandana. Dr. D H Ashwath Narayana welcomed the gathering. Dr.Ananda Giri spoke about the objectives of the meeting. Dr N R Ramesh Masthi presented a glimpses of activities in the Department from its inception. .

The KIMS Community Medicine PG Alumni felicitated Dr B J Mahendra Former Director, Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences and Presently, Director, Prasaranga, RGUHS,Bengaluru. Dr B J Mahendra was the first Post Graduate to have joined the department in 1993 and completed in 1996. Dr M K Sudarshan and Dr M S Rajanna did the felicitation honours. Dr B J Mahendra addressed the gathering about his experience as a post graduate in KIMS, Bengaluru and informed the new post graduates about how to go about the course. .

In the afternoon session the former staffs of the department - Dr. M S Rajanna , Dr.M K Sudarshan, Dr.Gangaboriah and Mr M K Chandrashekar addressed the gathering. The formal meeting concluded with the vote of thanks.

The PG alumni had the meeting of the association. It was decided to make by laws and register the PG alumni, Guest Lecture talks by Alumni to Current PGs and interaction between the two groups. The get together concluded at 4.30PM with high tea.
